campaign manager

June 5th, 2007 by chowbow

It also quotes e-mails from Kerry’s former campaign manager that are highly critical of the behavior of Kerry’s wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry . An advance copy of the memoir of Shrum’s years in politics, slated for release in early June, was provided to the Globe.

Shrum, who was brought into the campaign to help provide Kerry with a strategic overview, provides a vivid de scription about the events leading up to Kerry’s decision to vote for the war.
Worried his bride had sunk them into a bankruptcy spiral, John took out a line of credit against their home’s equity, and paid every sucker off. He also sat down with his wife and firmly explained she was never to do this again.

But, he had to go off to work again, leaving her on her own, and, lo and behold, she did do it again.
In 2006, ExxonMobil, its divisions and affiliates, along with the ExxonMobil Foundation, provided a combined $138.6 million in charitable contributions and community investment worldwide.

But Rep. Bart Stupak, along with his cosponsors—86 Democrats and 3 Republicans—want to make it a crime to “sell crude oil, gasoline, natural gas, or petroleum distillates at a price that is unconscionably excessive or indicates the seller is take unfair advantage (of) unusual market conditions or the circumstances of an emergency to increase prices unreasonably.” This, my friends, is grandstanding.

The bill would impose imprisonment and corporate penalties of up to $150 million a day. And do you think for a minute that this will actually have any impact on the cost of gasoline?

In case you’re wondering what does impact the cost, it is called market conditions. As Marlo Lewis, a senior fellow of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, points out, “Constraining the ability of gas companies to set prices according to supply and demand is a recipe for rationing. In the end, there will be less gas available and the people who will get it will be those most prepared to wait in line.” Welcome to the 1970s!

Columnist George F. Will recently noted that, “Gasoline consumption has increased 2.14 percent during the past year.” In inflation-adjusted dollars, $3.07 is less than gasoline cost in 1981.
Financial infidelity is a leading cause of marriage breakups,

He writes that Kerry telephoned him on the eve of the Oct. 11, 2002, vote. Shrum said Kerry was skeptical of Bush’s claim that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that he “didn’t trust Bush to give the diplomatic route a real chance.” Nonetheless, Kerry asked Shrum whether he would “be a viable general election candidate if he was in the small minority of senators who voted no.”

demand for pharmacists

June 3rd, 2007 by chowbow

The demand for pharmacists in the U.S. also is high, says Uddin. American Industries has recruited 21 pharmacists from The Philippines and India and nine high-technology engineers from India, all of whom are already in the U.S. After passing their test on one trip to the U.S. on a visitor’s visa, they accept jobs and enter the country with professional visas, which are granted pretty rapidly, says Uddin.

I have chosen not to participate. Today instead I am calling attention to another important observance. Tomorrow is Law Day. Law Day, a public education initiative of the American Bar Association, was created to celebrate democracy and the rule of law. I can think of no better way to honor those who have perished through violence than to celebrate the fundamental liberties that the rule of law protects. Before we can have peace in the world, we need justice first.

How will you celebrate Law Day? For some ideas, visit the Law Day web site.

The art of demotivation: video captures bad boss behavior

Demotivating bossesThere is probably no greater source of workplace conflict than bad bosses. Why?
Outsource to Arkansas
MSN Money reports an Arkansas woman believes that companies can send jobs to rural areas and save just as much as they could sending them to places like India.

So she left her job, trading the corporate jet for a rental car. With $2 million of her money, she created Rural Sourcing, an information technology contracting company that she claims can do the same work companies are sending overseas, for virtually the same price. White says this isn’t a charity project. She already has five companies signed up, including her old employer, Cardinal Health, and another 50 in the pipeline.

Her efforts won’t mean the end of so-called off-shoring of jobs by any means. But attorney Robert Zahler, who advises companies on outsourcing, says this will be an alternative for some clients. “Someone like Rural Sourcing should be able to save them somewhere between 30% or 50%, depending on what geographic market they’re already in,” Zahler says.

Domestic Outsourcing Boom in India
Express India reports India based IT outsourcing service providers are now scrambling to provide for the 3.5 million small and medium sized businesses (SMB) scattered throughout India.

“Outsourcing has traditionally been the preserve of large enterprises and the government, but now SMB-level organisations are looking at outsourcing, simply because the cost differentiation between doing the work in-house and outsourcing can be huge,” says a senior official of Hyderabad-based Satyam Computer.

That was the last I saw of her.

June 3rd, 2007 by chowbow

The Ducks never miss a chance to punish somebody. Turn your back to go in deep and chip the puck out, take a hit. Skate up the boards to take a chance on a 50/50 puck, get a shot to the chops. Get in close, get face washed by Pronger. It never stops.

This sort of game takes a toll one hit at a time and incrementally. While the Sens stayed disciplined tonight, I wonder how much longer that can last with the frustration building.

* Tonight’s 2nd period might have set the NHL back 15 years. After it was over I had to take a nap that lasted a full minute into the third period, and I was live blogging the game.

* Ray Emery is the only Senator playing worth a damn. He’s showing me something. If he ever gets some support, he can steal a game. As for his teammates, they’ve regressed over two games. All is lost.

As the train sped along, her eyes closed as she leaned back against the door, rocking with the motion of the car. Slowly, slowly, her head nodded and then fell far forward. Just as the rest of her was about to follow, she snapped her head up, waking in time to pull herself up. Her mouth hung open.

All the way past Maverick and Airport she swayed, her head falling forward, eyes shut tight, nodding off and losing balance, then jerking upright. Just when I thought she’d collapse in a heap on the subway car floor, some internal force would shake her and pull her up. The other passengers either ignored her or pointed at her, laughing quietly among themselves. The woman next to me met my eyes and shook her head in disapproval.

I was about to stand to offer her my seat at least, insist she sit down, when some homing instinct alerted her that her stop was next. The train stopped, the doors slid open, and she stumbled outside onto the platform. As the doors closed, and the train pulled away, she stood looking dazed as if uncertain where she was and thinking was too great an effort. She leaned against a metal fence and sank to the platform, her eyes closed. That was the last I saw of her.

I was the only one who watched her leave.Legal mp3 download

For the rest of the ride home and well into the evening, and even now, days later, I asked myself what I should have done. I had sat there, watching as this woman, this girl really, my son’s age, placed herself in harm’s way. I had sat there, wondering what to do, paralyzed by indecision. A thousand things went through my mind. Did she need medical attention? How would she get home? Did she even have a home? Despite the rough-looking hands, her nails bore signs of a recent manicure and her eyebrows were painstakingly plucked. She must have had a home. But would she get there safely? In that state she was vulnerable–to sexual assault, physical abuse, worse. I wanted to do something, but I didn’t know what.

The Ultimate Table Hockey Game

A couple of days back, I dedicated my column at NBC Sports.com to a look at the series of video shorts put together by the Knob Hockey gang.

But after kicking around YouTube this morning, I think I might have found the ultimate expression of the game Richard D’Alessio and the Jokers Hockey Club tried to parody:

The game in question costs an actual $495. Be sure to take a close look at the goalie. Back when I played table/knob hockey, there was no way the goalie had that much freedom of movement.

Think of it as a gift for the hockey fan who has everything. And while I’m sure plenty of folks would love to have their own electric bubble hockey set up, I can’t help but love the old school vibe I’m getting this is giving off.

She has had a well respected career

June 2nd, 2007 by chowbow

She has had a well respected career as an artist. I have yet to meet her but I’ve talked to her on the phone. My dad didn’t have any contact with his family after he left as a teenager, for good reason, and my dad’s mother was the cause of the estrangement. My dad reconnected with his sister when I was eighteen, which is why I’ve not met her. Bev’s a great human being and I think my dad has benefited from the contact and he’s learned a lot about his childhood that he blocked out.

So, Beverly was recently diagnosed with heart disease, and had to have open heart surgery. That in itself if difficult enough to go through, but what makes it worse is that anesthesia doesn’t work on her. It just has no effect and she can’t be put under for surgery. Topical anesthetic doesn’t work either. The doctors were a little freaked out, and decided to just let her be.
When the sausage was cooked through, I added a can of crushed tomatos, two cans of tomato sauce, garlic, basil, salt and peper, and let it simmer for about 1/2 an hour. I tossed it with the pasta, served it with garlic bread and it came out great. I will try it again in the future. It needed a lot of flavor though, so I would recomend lots of seasoning if using it. I bet it would be good in a spicy dish. Try it, you know you want to!

Cheesecake Problems Fixed thurs Aug 24th

Hi everyone. I just got done baking a few cheesecakes. Yummy, my favorite dessert. It can be done so many ways with so many flavors. I made a white and milk chocolate swirl one for a friend of my mothers. I layered the two flavors to form a bulseye look. Some one had mentioned doing the technique in another forum, so I tried it, and it looked very pretty. I made this in an 8″ removable bottom pan. I like these better than springfoam, they last longer and bake more even. I find that many people have problems when baking cheesecakes. Here is my list of common fixes for cheesecake problems.

However, Bev of course wanted to live and not have heart problems. She insisted on having the surgery. And so she did, completely awake, with no relief for the pain. I can’t imagine what that must have felt like, it’s just mind boggling. She came through the surgery fine, but my god! I’m just flabbergasted. I had never heard of anyone doing that. The only thing similar is when soldiers went through amputations without anesthetic during the Civil War. But that’s still a big difference from having your chest pried open and having someone fiddle around with your organs while you’re awake.

My dad was really concerned about me as well. I’ve never had to be put under for anything so we don’t know if anesthesia works on me. There’s a good chance that it doesn’t. When I had my wisdom teeth out I required several times the amount of novocaine as other patients, and my dentist expressed great marvel at that fact. When I had a precancerous skin tumor removed from my back, the topical anesthesia didn’t work very well and I could feel the scalpel dig into my skin. When I was in the hospital with my kidney stone a couple of years ago the paramedics gave me as much morphine as they could but it didn’t quell the pain at all (the pain periodically subsided and then I was in morphine heaven, but it didn’t do anything for my pain receptors). Vicodin just makes my skin feel like it is crawling with fire ants. Percacet makes me feel stoned, but doesn’t help with pain. Ibuprofen takes forever to kick in. Aspirin makes me nauseous. Aleve does work, but if that’s the only thing I could take as a painkiller for surgery, I don’t know.
